“I EXPECT RESOUNDING VICTORY”, RAVEN TELLS HIS TROOPS

Dateline: 17-1-518

The members of the recently formed Poldoon Border Scouts have had a rousing address from their patron and commander-in-chief the Raven of Poldoon read to them as they prepare to attack and seize Saluwedin Fort in Poldoon Pass.

It has been revealed that the new force, which has a large number of centaurs among its numbers, has already crossed the border into the Pass, and is encamped close to the supposedly abandoned former Kyrian fortress in the hills overlooking the Old Kyr Road.

The PBS’s commander, the centaur General Eurytion of Pelion, read out the Raven’s address to his assembled troops as they prepared for their assault.

In his address the Duke of Poldoon started by apologising for not being there to lead them in person but cited ‘matters of state’ as detaining him in Poldoon.

He went on to say how gratified he was that so many adventurers had joined his ‘ Border Army’, and described the “large and modern fort” being constructed near Poldoon within the borders of Bereny as the future base of the PBS

The Duke then went on to describe their current mission. “According to early reports, Saluwedin Fort is currently inhabited by enemy combatants”, the Raven told them. “Your mission is to to take and secure the Kyrian fort on my behalf. Once this goal has been achieved you will await further orders.”

“I have every confidence in your abilities and I expect you will deliver a prompt and resounding victory. Fight well, fight hard, make the Poldoon Border Scouts a name to be respected,” he finished.

Although the PBS is fully sanctioned by the Crown and officially the Crown authorities are backing the Raven’s actions, off the record many Royal bureaucrats are aghast over the diplomatic crisis with Kyr that the attack on the fort has precipitated. One source close to the King privately described the Raven’s actions as “definitely not helpful”.

However a PBS source was dismissive of the Empire’s displeasure. “In my view it was extremely provocative of Kyr to place a fort so very close to the Bereny border, only 20 miles. So claiming it for Bereny I think is just redressing the balance of history a bit. And the Ra'is has been a rather neglectful landlord and has let ‘his’ property become inhabited by all sorts of nasties that have been raiding Bereny.”
